Week 4: Hockey!

Our highlight this week was the second of four hockey sessions which took place just before lunch on Thursday. The children put their hats and sunscreen on, took their drink bottles to the court, and had a great time learning new hockey skills from our visiting hockey teacher, Cee.

It's great to see the kids getting stuck into something new and always striving to do their best. Well done, Room 16!

Mathletics Champions

This week our Mathletics was amazing! It's clear that you all worked really hard and ended up easily achieving the expected 1,500 points by the end of the week. That made it really hard for Mr Woodfield to choose our best Mathletics students, but in the end there were three clear champions. Well done to Keira, Seren, and Braden! Because we dod so outstandingly, I've also put our class total and class average up in shining lights. Ki te pai, Room 16!

Tui Team Maths: Cross Grouping

Last year, Tui Team tried cross grouping for basic facts knowledge and saw great progress among our students. This term, the Tui Term is trialling cross grouping for addition and subtraction, along with basic facts.

Students are split into ability groups which have been determined through pre-testing. There is fluidity between groups, as once students shows competency at the stage they are working on, they may be moved to another group. Similarly, if a student shows the need for additional support, they can be moved to a group which can cater for this.

At the beginning of the year it is important that students feel comfortable and are given the opportunity to build confidence. The Tui Team teachers know that cross grouping will be new for some of the students, and we will make sure to speak to children about all of them having their own learning journey and the importance of being in a group which best meets their needs.

Please feel free to contact your child's classroom teacher or our team leader, Michelle, via her email michelles@reremoana.school.nz

Week 3 in Review

What an action-packed third week we've had! There's been maths cross grouping, reading, writing, Tui Team sports, hockey, and even more besides! One of our highlights this week was visiting our buddy class on Friday during the middle block. Room 16 were fantastic role models to the Room 3 students, sharing stories and reading beautifully with them. Next week Room 3 will visit us, and we're all looking forward to sharing our writing - narrative stories all about time travel machines!

Mathletics Champions: Week 3

A lot more of the Room 16 students did really well at their mathletics tasks this week. Remember to keep logging on each day to make sure you make 1,500 points by the end of the week! A special congratulations to this week's top Mathletics students:

Mathletics of the Week

Well done to all the students in Room 16 who worked hard at their Mathletics tasks this week. A good number you reached or exceeded 1,500 points, which is the expected minimum number of points students should be achieving each week. A special congratulations to the top five Mathletes who are listed below in shining lights!

First Week Back!

Handwriting, Shuttle Runs, and in the library

What a fantastic first week it's been! Room 16 have been awesome at jumping straight back into classroom routines and learning. We spent much of the first day reminding ourselves of the school ICT and Chromebook rules so we could spend the next day setting up and learning how to use our devices. We haven't spent all week on our Chromebooks, though; on Tuesday we got into our exercise books and did some handwriting - Margaret Mahy's poem My Sister. One of our other highlights was fitness on Friday: the kids got right into the competitive spirit when doing their shuttle run races! (no surprises there, considering classroom House Points were on the line!)

Our PB4L focus this week has been "Do Good Because Good is Good to Do: Be a good friend." You can see our classroom poster below. Ask your child all about our new buddy bench which has been a part of our focus this week.
