Meet Mr Woodfield

Attempting to build a sandcastle in the desert

Happy New Year! I hope you have all managed to have a safe and relaxing summer holiday! I was lucky enough to spend my Christmas and the New Year with family - first in England, and then in Saudi Arabia! In England I visited old churches and cathedrals, museums and art galleries, and found some fantastic book shops! In Saudi Arabia, I explored old ruined villages, fossicked for fossils in the desert, and saw a traditional Arabic display of falconry!

My name is Thomas Woodfield, and this is my second year at Reremoana School. Last year I taught Years 3 and 4, and this year I'm teaching Years 4 and 5!

I was born and raised in Christchurch, and apart from two years in Singapore, I spent my primary and secondary educational years there. I chose to move to Auckland to study classical singing and history of music at the University of Auckland. After finishing my degree, I decided to study teaching.

In my family, my two older sisters are teachers, my mum is a teacher, two of my aunts are teachers, and two of my grandparents are teachers! So it wasn’t a surprise when I decided to follow teaching.

Literacy and The Arts are my particular passions. I believe strongly in providing opportunities for students to develop enthusiasm for learning through encouraging creativity, imagination, and divergent thinking. When I have some spare time, I love to read a good book or relax in front of a movie. I also enjoy watching sport - especially American Football!

If you need to contact me, my email is thomasw@reremoana.school.nz, or you can find me in Room 16 after school apart from Mondays and Tuesdays when we have staff meetings. I’m certain that 2016 is going to be a fantastic year of fun and learning, and I can’t wait to meet you all!
